The President and the Courts

In America, we have become a society of litigators. We sue for all types of reasons. We sue in small claims court over fender benders. We sue in District Courts to obtain money from people who we believe harmed us. If we are wealthy, or know a good organization that funds litigation, we can even “go to the Supreme Court.” Having the best lawyer(s) is always a good idea. Having a sympathetic judge is even better.

Of late, we have seen judges chastise and threaten even the President of the United States for sending criminals back to the countries from whence they came.

Many have wondered when the madness will end.

When the United States was formed, our founding fathers gave us the Constitution with three branches of government: the Legislature, who make the laws, the Executive who enforces the law, and the Judiciary who interpret the law. In reality, the Judiciary was a subordinate branch. It never entered the picture unless the other two branches failed in some way and the branch involvement was limited. Over time that has changed. The judiciary has become the most important, or at least, of equal importance. With the change, has come a boldness and feeling of superiority exhibited by many Federal judges. Remember they are appointed for life.

The question will soon become: should these judges, who have indeed become political activists, remain on the bench for their natural lives or should they have term limits of say seven or ten years.

May we find the answer soon before more damage is done.

God bless.
